Biography
For nearly five years, Scott Baker & The Universal Expressions has crossed the state, bringing fresh sounds to each venue they play. Comprised of Timmy Scott on drums, Pete Socha on bass, Jeff Yantz on harmonica/vocals/guitars, and Scott Baker on vocals/guitar, the band has ridden the tide of styles and fads to always create fresh and new music along the time line.

Releasing their debut CD in November of 2007, Between Seasons, the disc served as a foray into a mix of singer/songwriter rock with classic rock fervor and modern day jam rock chops. Agile, witty, personal, and deep, Baker's songs run the gamut in every aspect, offering something for everyone. Songs such as Slap Back, Exit, and Mellow Haze were featured on NPR in Michigan as well as Z93.3 WKQZ. Chance Meeting featured Norah Jones guitarist Adam Levy along with the band, giving a high watermark to the recording.
In a complete concert evening, The Universal Expressions handpick favorite cover songs reaching back over 30 years to as close as just the past year, for inspirational and majestic versions of favorite songs and one-hit wonders. Artists covered include Tom Petty, Ryan Adams, Wilco, Neil Young, George Harrison, The Grateful Dead, Wallflowers, Steely Dan, Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones, The Band, among many others.
The band has already performed with national acts over the years (see Fact Sheet for career highlights) and they continue to find themselves in the unique position of being able to market their sound in every market, from electric to acoustic. Having won three Review Awards in 2007 (Band of the Year, Band Deserving Wider Recognition, Guitarist of the Year), multiple individual band member wins in 2008, the band was also nominated twice in 2009, pulling in a Best Duo of the Year award for Baker and Socha's solo acoustic performances.
Notable Quotes
"A melted blend of Rock, Blues and Jazz (that made) up a cool fondue of soulful blues sound. These guys are very easy on the ears and you can't help but to tap your feet and bob your head...the band's playing cohesion was masterful. These guys were very tight. You have to check these cats out, they're that good and they're right in your own back yard."
